SIMU 002

Interactive Installation

Working off the innate sympathy humans harbor for technology, Simu-002 emulates aspects of the living form through interaction and projection to explore our relationship with technology and the space it lives in. Simu-002's distance sensor acts as its eyes, controlling the black point of its projection according to an object's proximity to Simu-002's front face. The projection is initiated by the touch sensor housed on the side of Simu-002, bridging the physical gap as the internal LED blinks in time with a human heartbeat. The complex geometry of the projection fluctuates according to the music featured with Simu-002, filling the space with an atmosphere that facilitates internal reflection. Through an inorganic form with no discernable facial features or recognizable human elements, Simu-002 holds a mirror up to the human experience, showing the user what it means to be human.

The geometry of the particle system is controlled by the audio track that plays.

Using real-time data collection from an ultrasonic sensor the particle system reacts to users changing when it appears.

The housing for the Arduino microcontollers and sensors was laser cut out of acrylic and wood.

Below are the wiring diagrams for the Arduino controllers and diagram of the case construction.
